Many are talking about Bob Martin, the barbershop owner of the Stag out in Snohomish who has decided to defy Washington’s stay-at-home order. He is staying open and giving haircuts, and KTTH’s Jason Rantz was recently joined on the line by a customer who decided to get one.

“I like what they were saying and what they were standing up for, so I got in line,” said Jeff from Snohomish, who was 19th in line at the time of calling, and said he practiced social distancing while waiting.

WA salon owner believes they could safely reopen now, if allowed

Does he have concerns with the possibility of contributing to the spread of coronavirus? As Jason noted, Gov. Inslee recently said that people who are participating in things like this are heartless.

“Well, we’ve heard that from passersby. The gentlemen with me in line have been, let’s just say, lectured by a number of people that have passed us by … that we’re contributing to the killing of fellow citizens,” he said. “All that we had to say was just, ‘Thank you for your opinion.'”

WA Rep: Small businesses need a timeline for reopening

What compelled him to this kind of activism?

“I don’t even see it as activism, I just see it as being cautious, understanding the mitigation of the social distancing and supporting a small local business that’s trying to stay afloat by providing an essential service,” he said.

“I think it’s time to stand up for our civil rights.”
